Two Main Nutrients needed for the Brain.

Happy Monday Warriors!

I hope you all have had a wonderful October so far. It’s hard to believe it’s already 3/4 through the month!

Last month we talked about viruses that affect the function of the brain.  If you missed it, make sure you catch up, since viruses seem to be the hot topic this time of year!

————————————————————–

This week I wanted to talk with you guys about certain nutrients that are needed for your brain to function at its best.  If you’ve been following me for awhile, you might already know them and if not then WELCOME!  You will learn quite a bit about the brain if you stick around.

Today I want to not only talk about these nutrients, but talk about them in two different ways through Craniopathy Chiropractic and through Genetic Based Nutrition, because those are what I believe are the BEST ways to get these nutrients effectively.

Nutrient #1. OXYGEN.

The brain uses three times as much oxygen as the muscles of the body do. It requires about 20% of the human bodies oxygen.  We know that oxygen is VITAL of course, but for the brain it allows for growth and healing to occur.  Our blood carries oxygen to the brain and is reliant on sufficient nitric oxide to do so. Oxygen comes from the lungs, in particular the lower part of the lugs that hold the most red blood cells to accept more oxygen.

The BEST way to get the most amount of oxygen is to breathe through your nose and fully expand your diaphragm. This will actually enable you to get that lower part of your lungs so the blood can carry it back up into the brain.
Oxygen depletion is the #1 thing that I focus on in my practice.  This being because if your brain doesn’t have enough oxygen, you will constantly be chasing what is going on in your body.  Whether pain, infections, or proper nutrition.  It doesn’t matter how much good nutrition tips you get, how much water you drink or how much you exercise, if you aren’t getting oxygen up there… You won’t heal.

HOW DO I ASSESS?
Through the cranial system of course!  There is a specific rhythm that the bones of the head go through.  This rhythm is super important for blood to flow in and out of your brain, and oxygen to enter.  When there is tension in this system, this means that this rhythm will be disrupted.  Tension is this system also means a difficult time breathing correctly in and out of the nose.  Some individuals find it hard at all to nasal breath, and when that is the case, there is severe tension within the head impacting the sinuses.  Don’t just go running to the ENT, most of what I find is that the cranial system as A whole is the problem, not the sinuses.
Remember, the only way to access that nitric oxide is to nasal breathe!  Time and time again, patient after patient will leave my office saying OMG I can BREATHE!  It’s amazing how much your mood even changes when you are properly oxygenated.
This is why children and adults have temper and mood issues when they have sleep apnea or are mouth breathers.  It affects how your brain functions!

The oxygen level also impacts the health of your lymphatic system in your brain, so if you aren’t properly oxygenated, you can have toxins build up in your brain and cause severe inflammation.

HOW DO YOU GET MORE OXYGEN THROUGH NUTRITION?!

You can also enhance your oxygen levels by enhancing the nitric oxide cycle through nutrition. Nitric oxide helps vasodilate (meaning expand) blood vessels to allow for more oxygen.  However, for some, their genetic profiles don’t allow nitric oxide to be formulated effectively.  Because of specific mutations and because this pathway is extremely sensitive to radiation and free radical damage, the cycle can get compromised, meaning less oxygen available.  Not having enough nitric oxide can be very damaging neurologically to the body as well.  You see, just like your brain, your nerves also need oxygen.  Without it, they don’t function as well.
Finding out if your nitric oxide cycle is compromised can be found through specific kinesiology genetic testing (which I do).  When we know that this is a player, the customized nutrition will help to overcome this obstacle and allow you to get more oxygen!  Pretty cool right?

Nutrient #2.  Energy (glucose & ATP).

Energy. The brain utilizes more energy than ANY other organ.  I mean think about all that is has to do right?
The brain and body need actual ENERGY made from within called ATP.  This is needed for every single cell of our body to do what it needs to do.  If we don’t have enough ATP, our brain and body will be depleted.  WE also get energy from another source: glucose.  What’s the big organ for glucose production? The Liver.
The liver supplies sugar or glucose by turning stored glucose (glycogen) into glucose! It can also make glucose by harvesting amino acids, waste products and fat by products! Another reason to love that liver!

So we must have a robust and healthy liver to actually supply the energy (glucose) needed to our brain. Yet another organ our brain relies upon.  The first if you remember were the lungs.

Body wise, we need make sure the liver is moving... All organs MOVE, and need movement to do what they need to do.  So just like the brain needed to have proper movement for blood flow to happen, the other organs as well need proper flow and mobility.

HOW DO WE GET IT TO MOVE?
Through body work!  Working on the nerves that control the liver are key to make sure it knows what to do!  So enhancing the spinal areas related to the liver are key through chiropractic manipulation.  Also doing reflex techniques to get the liver and gallbladder working more affectively through abdominal work is really helpful to get them moving!
Lastly, the liver is a big source of emotional stress, so if this is the case, you must uncover and start to heal from those emotional wounds so that the liver can do what it needs to!  Emotional wounds cause physical problems too!

HOW DO WE GET BETTER ENERGY THROUGH NUTRITION?!

This is one of the FIRST and biggest impact pathways we focus on first with genetic nutrition.  This being because if you don’t have enough energy, you can’t even begin to work on other genetic factors like MTHFR and others(HUGE mistake made by many who do genetic testing).  Getting your body to make more ATP and to make and enhance your liver and glucose is really impactful!  Many on my genetic protocols will say even after a week that their energy is amazing!  We don’t have to give them extra energy help or adrenal supports, their own bodies make the energy they need!
Any why are they happier?
Because their brain is happier.  It has the energy it needs to do what it needs to!
And, your liver is happier too.  Which means detox pathways, hormones and other systems will work more efficiently!
A couple genetic variants I see when this is really impacted is the NDUFS gene and the ACAT gene mutations.  Take care of those and the rest of the energy pathway will clear and be happy:)

So there you have it folks.  Oxygen and Energy.  If you give your brain these two, it will work for you the way you need it to and in a much HEALTHIER more EFFICIENT way.

Triggers for Disease and Injury

Happy Monday Everyone!  I hope you enjoyed last week’s topic about surviving allergy season!

This week we will be talking about Triggers for Disease and Injury- The all important topic of INFLAMMATION.

What you NEED to know though is THIS:

INFLAMMATION ISN’T A DISEASE, IT’S A REACTION.  IT ALWAYS HAS A TRIGGER OR A FEEDER MECHANISM OR BOTH!!

—-

In 2014, American’s spent 4.4 billion on OTC pain relievers (Including anti-inflammatories) on several primary medications: aspirin, acetaminophen and ibuprofen. Currently, 46,000,000 adults in the US have physician diagnosed arthritis, in one form or another and that is projected to reach 76,000,000 by 2030.

It’s time to RETHINK inflammation!

If you chase inflammation or just give anti-inflammatories, even the NATURAL form, you are just putting a bandaid on the situation.

Here is the problem with NSAIDs.  They actually don’t allow healing ( and harm the kidney over time).  Let me set the stage:

-When there is an injury to a joint, muscle whatever it is.  The inflammation of that area actually stimulates healing and new tissue formation.  But what happens when you take an NSAID is the pain is gone, but the inflammation is also down meaning that actual cellular repair never happens.  When you interrupt or block inflammation, healing is also blocked.

This is why people live off of anti-inflammatories, because the pain WILL come back because the tissue has not been healed.

Here are all the different feeder mechanisms to inflammation:

  • Toxicity
  • Obesity
  • Pathogenic Gut Bacteria
  • Ulcerative Bowl Disorders
  • Dental Issues
  • Stealth Pathogens
  • Nervous System Dysfunction
  • Long Term Intense Exercise
  • Emotional wounds
  • EMF’s
These mechanisms must be addressed in order to bring you back to a state of true health.

All too often, even in the natural field I am in, inflammation is treated as a disease, in and of itself and therapy is short-sided and focuses only on inflammation reduction.

If we merely just prescribe natural anti-inflammatories instead of pharmaceutical ones, what great things have we done??

We have to address those TRIGGERS!

For example, address the root cause of inflammation for one patient can look like this:
You find the root cause is gut inflammation caused by pathogenic bacteria.
-Why is the bacteria there in the first place?
-How do you resolve the bacterial presence?
-How do you resolve damage to gut epithelial tissue?

4 months later their digestion is better, gut pain is gone, elimination and stool form is back to normal, but still residual pain in the musculoskeletal tissue.  WHY?  Well, we have only addressed initiation or the cause, now we  MUST address resolution.
HEALING=RESOLUTION.

Ways you get ride of waste and toxins are lymph, liver, kidney, skin, lungs GI, tongue and fat.  If they don’t work well neither do you.  YOU CAN’T REGENERATE, IF YOU CAN’T ELIMINATE..

—–

Let’s talk resolvers (return to original state).  Well depending on what the TRIGGER is, after addressing it through initiation, resolution means then giving nutrients that heal the aftermath.  These nutrients can come in the form of actual physical modalities to get blood flow, ect back to the area, or actual nutrients.

Physical modalities:
-Your body doesn’t just stay sick for no reason, it wants to heal.  What happens to all the cellular waste from the old cells when you make new ones?  If they can’t get out they stay inside you.  Hence no resolution of inflammation.
-Craniopathy care
-lymphatic work
-colon therapies

Nutrients like essential fatty acids are not anti or pro inflammatory per say.  Rather, they either up or down regulate the production of pro-inflammatory mediators, balancing inflammatory processes so that healing can occur with undue damage to surround tissues.  They contain something called a pro-resolvin, which brings the inflammatory process to an end.

Most western diets have an overabundance of omega 6 fatty acids and include insufficient amounts of omega 3s and 9s.  High omega 6  and low omega 3,9 intake tip this system out of balance.
Our endocannibioid system in our body also runs off of fats.  So we must intake good fats for cellular repair.

So utilizing high grade omegas are one way of resolution, but there are many others such as hemp oil which turn on cellular repair mechanisms.

My favorite ones for cellular healing are from Standard Process:
Hemp Oil complex- includes calamari oil (omegas, pro dissolving mediators), broccoli (cellular repair, NRF2, Heat shock proteins), hemp(endocannibinoid activator).   Combining this with their Tumeric Forte (turns off the inflammatory master switch).

Resolving inflammation means you must find the initiator and heal the aftermath, but the quality of nutrients and right balance is needed.

If you are just also chasing inflammation with your providers, it’s time to take a different look.  Look at where it’s actually coming from, fix those methods through alternative modalities and heal the brain, then come in with tissue healing protocols.

That’s all for now rockstars.

HAPPENING TODAY!!! Please RSVP!!! We NEED to STOP THIS!  They are trying to dismantle taking away even medical exemptions.  Soon, this will be mandated for adults too.

That is all for now,

Wishing you a happy and healthy week.

How clenching, brain and nervous system stress deplete your adrenals

s

Happy Monday Everyone!  I how you are surviving the heat!  We continue on this week on the topic of the Adrenal Glands.  Last week we went over a little anatomy of the glands which set the stage for how they function.  We will continue on the rest of this month about what actually stresses them out in the first place that makes them go haywire.  Today we will talk about more mechanical problems from the brain and nervous system, next week will be nutrition/genetics/infections/heavy metals and lastly will be emotional stress and exercise.

Last week we talked about how hormones are cyclic, meaning they are regulated and released through cycles.  We always want to stay in balance, and releasing hormones when needed is a way be stay in balance through feedback loops.

(Not my image)

The brain sends a signal, then down the line the adrenal glands secrete the hormones.  But what if the signal from the brain is improper?

Meaning, the brain isn’t working at it’s best and so the adrenal glands aren’t working the best.

What causes the brain to stop working it’s best?

Well, if we look at where the brain is actually located, we see many layers of protection.  There’s a few layers surrounding the brain, a sac like membrane that covers it, then we have the skull bones.  That membrane doesn’t stop at the head though, it continues down the spinal cord into the tailbone where it ends.

(not my image)

The Arrow that says “Sella Turcica” is basically a little saddle that your pituitary gland sits in that attaches to the hypothalamus.

Any torsion in this saddle causes pressure on the glands.  What can cause torsion?  Well for little ones this is birth trauma.  Whether a normal birth or through interventions..
What does adrenal stress look like in a little one?

They are constantly in fight or flight mode.  Aren’t happy eating or after eating.  Don’t like to be put down, colicy, maybe have improper digestion and are constipated or not sleeping more than a few hours. They look tense all the time and are easily woken.  Also might react to foods. These are basic survival responses, but they aren’t normal to be on 100% of the time.

Simply alleviating the pressure from the brain through craniopathy work (taking pressure off the brain by moving the bones into their proper place)  can calm the baby down, normalize the signal and stop them from continually thinking they are in danger.

What else causes torsion?
Well, once we are grown, we grow into those torsion patterns unless they are addressed.  Our teeth then grow into torsion patterns, and the rest of the body follows.
An increase of torsion can either begin from the top down or the bottom up or both.

Since everything is connected, the twisting nature from either end when not addressed, causes an increase of stress to the body.  It’s not in the environment to really do its best work.  This is especially true when not only is there head trauma from birth, but actual trauma to the head itself.  This is a lot of inflammation to the head and those glands, and they won’t function normally.

Individuals who have head injuries (whiplash, concussion, fell on head, ect.) will usually say they are tired more often, don’t sleep as well, or there digestion and hormones are irregular.  These are warning signs!  Hello, brain here, not working great, help me out!

But you don’t have to had direct head trauma either.
You can really just have a lot of torsion in the head just from birth, that causes your teeth to grow in such a way that causes even more stress to the head.

You see your bite matters too.  We aren’t born with teeth, so the way that they grow in and make contact with each other, affects everything down the line.

Clenching is a really common sign that there is head tension.  We definitely clench more under more emotional stress, but just straight clenching alone is a sign of head inflammation.  The more you clench the more inflammation it inflicts and the more your adrenal glands will feel the wrath, so to speak.

So head trauma, improper bite and clenching can all cause adrenal stress.

But nervous system stress can really come from ANY stress on the nervous system.  Because after all it is all connected.  The nervous system is not superman.  It can’t do everything all the time when stress is still put on its system.

So really check out the whole spine and HEAD will ensure proper nervous system health, making sure the mechanics of the joints are working well.
Happy nervous system = happy brain and glands = happy adrenal glands:)

Remember it’s a feedback loop as well, so the more chronic stress to this gland the more the cycle continues until the adrenals then become fully depleted.  Or on the opposite end they just aren’t being stimulated as well. Side not, Glucocorticosteroid drugs deplete the hypothalamus pituitary signal and over time can cause more damage than help.

Taking brain inflammation off is HUGE for any condition.  You’d be surprised how much the body can heal on its own when the brain is working at it’s best.  This is why I always talking about healing the nervous system as #1 to any protocol!
