Healing in the Holidays Series Part 3

Happy Monday Warriors!

I hope you all have been enjoying this month’s topics all centered around the holidays.  We’ve previously talked about nervous system and brain health, and nutrition pointers to remain healthy.  This week we are going to go into more of the stress related issues that come up during the holidays and how to remain in balance and come out stronger!

Also, last week on my instagram, I gave some healthy gift giving options if you still need some pointers!

Check it out here:https://www.instagram.com/p/B58BvSkn6sz/

__________________________________________

There will be no blog next week as it is Christmas Week, so you all enjoy your family and loved ones and we will be back in action for the first of the year! There are many way to help prepare your emotional system for increased stress loads.  The best thing is to really do that.. prepare.

Just as we have prepared our body in the previous weeks, we don’t really think to “prepare” for the holidays.

However, for some with increased things to do, gifts to get, family drama, parties, maybe financial stress, it can come as a little stressful time.  You also may neglect yourself through the process as to take care of everyone else.

Although we can’t control our family or their reactions, we can however control our own and how we “choose” to respond.  We can also “choose” to change our mindset for other stressful situations if we recognize a pattern.

Here are some tips to help you get out of a specific mindset:

1. Be Realistic.  The holidays don’t have to be perfect . As families change and grow, traditions and rituals often change as well. Choose a few to hold on to, and be open to creating new ones. For example, if your adult children can’t come to your house, find new ways to celebrate together, such as sharing pictures, emails or videos.

2. Set aside differences that may be in the family. Try to accept family members and friends as they are, even if they don’t live up to all of your expectations. Set aside grievances until a more appropriate time for discussion. And be understanding if others get upset or distressed when something goes awry. Chances are they’re feeling the effects of holiday stress too.

Although there’s some heavy topics going on right now in our healthcare system, finding the right time to speak your truth is key.  I wouldn’t say don’t speak your truth because we must must keep sharing about the corruption, but don’t feel like you have to say it at every turn.  Trust me, as being a health disruptor I have no fear speaking the truth, but what I’ve learned is that certain people need different approaches.  The holidays as all times should be about showing love, so spreading the truth in a way that is loving is key.

If you need information about topics like vaccines and how to approach it, I suggest the website learntherisk.org.  She has wonderful research and info to help!

3. Stick to a budget!  Before you go gift and food shopping, decide how much money you can afford to spend. Then stick to your budget. Don’t try to buy happiness with an avalanche of gifts.

Try these alternatives:

  • Donate to a charity in someone’s name.
  • Give homemade gifts.
  • Start a family gift exchange.

4. Plan ahead. Set aside specific days for shopping, baking, visiting friends and other activities. Plan your menus and then make your shopping list. That’ll help prevent last-minute scrambling to buy forgotten ingredients. And make sure to line up help for party prep and cleanup.  Goal setting is HUGE!!

Don’t try to make HUGE yearly goals or set new goals to try to get done in December.  Set your goals for earlier in the year to celebrate during the holidays!

5. Learn to say no. Saying yes when you should say no can leave you feeling resentful and overwhelmed. Friends and colleagues will understand if you can’t participate in every project or activity. If it’s not possible to say no when your boss asks you to work overtime, try to remove something else from your agenda to make up for the lost time.

6. Take A Breather.. Spending just 15 minutes alone, without distractions, may refresh you enough to handle everything you need to do. Find something that reduces stress by clearing your mind, slowing your breathing and restoring inner calm.

  1. Some options may include:
    • Taking a walk at night and stargazing.
    • Prayer
    • Listening to soothing music.
    • Getting a massage or CHIRO!
    • Reading a book.

7.  Neuro Emotional Technique.  Come in and get some NET if you know things are going to be stressful and you already are feeling it!  Let’s change that mindset so you can go into your holiday with ease! This Technique is extremely successful for stress reduction.

8.  Essential Oils.  Essential Oils by DoTerra are amazing to diffuse in your home to help with emotional overwhelm, to carry with you or to take as a daily supplement to help calm the system.  Frankincense is a great oil for emotional stability as well as Balance and Melissa for anxiety.  I also like diffusing On Guard to protect against negative energies:)

9. Nutrition.  I love using specific herbals to help if you know you are going to be in a stressful situation.  These will help you not go off track and handle the stress with ease once your stress organs are supported.  Some of my favorites are withania complex and adrenal complex by mediherb.  Of course, as we talked about last week, getting your genetic nutrition protocols in order will cause you to need less support, but these herbs are great to have in a pinch.

That’s all for this week!  Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!!! Thank you for such a wonderful year in San Diego!  I am truly blessed by all of you.

That is all for now.

Have a happy and healthy week!

DR. Hamel

The Truth About Flu Shots (Bonus: Halloween Candy Alternatives)

Happy Monday Everyone!!  I hope you all enjoyed this month’s topics all around children’s health specifically back to school!

We will be ending the month on specifically how to keep your children’s immune systems boosted this year, and some tips for that holiday that’s coming up that ruins all of our lives when we are just getting on track right?  lol.  Halloween candyyy….

Lets first start our chat with Immunity.  To understand immunity we have to understand the immune system first.  The immune system has two parts the adaptive immune system and the innate immune system.

Innate immunity is our first defense against invaders. The epithelial and mucosal linings of our respiratory and GI tracts, as well as our skin are major components of the innate immune system. These act as physical and chemical barriers against pathogens. Cells known as macrophages also play a large role in innate immunity. Macrophages recognize bacterial or viral components such as lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or double-stranded RNA (dsRNA), via special receptors known as Toll-like receptors (TLRs). TLR activation cause macrophages to secrete cytokines (small molecules involved in cell signaling and attraction), as well as to phagocytose the infected cells. The innate immune system is required to activate our adaptive immune system.

The adaptive immune response is mediated by immune cells known as lymphocytes. These are B and T cells. B cells secrete antibodies, highly specific protein molecules that bind to a specific pathogen. These antibodies bind specific parts of pathogens known as antigens – either presented extracellularly on infected cells or free-floating in the body. Antibody binding attracts mechanisms that will then attack and destroy the infected cell or pathogen. Some of these B cells become memory cells, which help the body “remember” the disease and prevent re-infection. T cells can either be helper T cells or cytotoxic T cells, and bind pathogens via the T-cell receptor (TCR), which senses specific protein sequences. Helper T cells activate B cells, attract macrophages, and secrete cytokines. Cytotoxic T cells create pores in infected cells through which they introduce chemicals that trigger apoptosis, thus actively killing the cell.’

“Here is the issue with vaccines in general and IMMUNITY.  Vaccines create temporal (short-term) antibodies ONLY. This is the sole requirement from the FDA in order to get approval to sell the vaccine. If you read the vaccine product insert written by the pharmaceutical company that creates the vaccine, it clearly states the increase in temporal antibodies as the basis for proof the vaccine works.

“But science has long known that antibodies alone do NOT create real immunity. Some people with high levels of antibodies can be exposed to an illness and still get sick, while others without antibodies can be exposed and not get sick.
Dr Merrill Chase, nicknamed the Grandfather of Immunology for his pioneering work, did clear cut research on this issue back in the 1950s. His results are clear: antibody levels don’t determine immunity.

The immune system is a highly complex system and science is still in its infancy understanding how it functions. In fact, immunology textbooks were completely rewritten recently after a University of Virginia study finally proving the link between the gut and the brain through the lymphatic system. Before this 2014 study, immunology books were adamant there was no link.

But doctors, who are only trained to promote vaccines and not in the science of vaccination, will never tell you this. In fact, most doctors don’t know since their main sources of vaccine information comes from pharmaceutical company representatives paid to sell the vaccine, or the CDC, a government agency that has been called out many times for taking pharmaceutical industry money and collects royalties on vaccines sales.”

Since vaccines are given by injection, they bypass the normal immune pathway(innate immune system) and therefore do not trigger the cellular immune system, which science shows to be the main component necessary to create immunity. ( you have to actually catch an infection to have IMMUNITY!)

As a result, there are numerous reports of outbreaks in fully vaccinated populations, with booster shots not making a difference. Since there is no benefit of immunity with vaccines, yet very real risk of side effects and reactions, the question is who really benefits from an outdated vaccine program?

Well we know that answer already… ehemm big pharma.  It’s all about the money, not about health, which is extremely sad for our future generations.

But the point here to make is that vaccines, in particular here the flu shot, does NOT through research create immunity.. Even if it does exhibit a minute antibody response, you have to outweigh your risks since the other ingredients within the vaccines are usually the problem not the actual viruses.

Here is the list of ingredients in the flu shot:

– flu shots are manufactured in eggs, which is very labor intensive, expensive process.  They take an egg and inject some viruses.  The virus grows for 11 days, they “separate the virus from the egg”, which viruses don’t always separate from the egg and cause cross contamination.

More recently now they use dog kidney cells, caterpillar cells and others to harvest flu vaccine every 6-8 weeks. This is cheaper and quicker than eggs. With the prior it was 1 flu shot per year.
So how did they get funding to get the new cell line technology?? They had to create a pandemic so the government would fund it.  And that’s what they’ve done.

Others use cells from aborted retinas in aborted babies, others through insect cells.
These vaccines are filthy, why would you want to inject this?
Even those who are sicker, I understand you want to protect against the flu.  But, for those that are ill, has there been any studies showing the safety with?  The answer is no.

Any new vaccine is tested on completely healthy people, which no underlying health conditions, no medications.  But who gets those shots, not always healthy babies?  This is the problem.  Immune challenged kids, the elderly who are already immune challenged.  There are NO studies on these.

They also only have very short term studies available.  For instance only 3-5 days post vaccine for a reaction and if not they say it’s safe past that?  What about long term complications?  We have NO research for this.  Because the vaccine companies are backed through law to never get sued, so they can do what they want.  It’s very corrupt.

These are the ingredients in a flu shot:

It is one of the most dangerous vaccines on the market, linked to sudden death, stroke, paralysis and more.

And even mainstream media has to admit it hardly works — if it even works at all.

Studies show that it rarely protects people from getting the flu and that increased vaccination does NOT reduce mortality in any age group. “We could not correlate increasing vaccination coverage after 1980 with declining mortality rates in any age group. Because fewer than 10% of all winter deaths were attributable to influenza in any season, we conclude that observational studies substantially overestimate [flu] vaccination benefit.” (link to study)

So is that flu shot really worth the REAL risk? Just to escape a few days of rest… Think twice before rolling up your sleeve. Actually think three times, four times, five times….
You can also shed the virus to others after getting the vaccine.  So you get the flu everywhere anyways.  Why not just boost our real immune systems?

So the theme here is work on actual INNATE immunity!! Your child cannot actually get immunity unless they actually contract the infection!  They have to have that innate immunity and adaptive immunity reactions to have immune system memory.  A lot of the infections we “vaccinate” for aren’t that serious.  They were in the olden days, when we had poor sanitation, didn’t wash hands, and didn’t know much about pathogens.

We have so many resources now for the immune system and how to effectively protect it, and heal from infections.  Remember it’s good for your child to get sick, it builds their immune system naturally!  Vaccines do NOT equal immunity.

If you want more resources, take a look at learntherisk.org.

What I like to use for children’s immunity:

1. Chiropractic!  Healthy brain=healthy immune system.  Regular chiropractic care is shown in research to boost white blood cells for immunity.

2. Nutrition.  Cut out the candy, sugar and processed foods which feed microbes and decrease the immune system.

3.  Foundation-  utilizing a great multivitamin and omega will create a great foundation for immune system function.  Not from the grocery stores or flinstones or gummies.  REAL food vitamins.  Ask me for good companies I’ve thoroughly researched.  If you get vitamins from other sources, its more toxic to you than not taking them.

5.  Essential oils–  EO work wonderful for preventing, stimulating the immune system and fighting infections at the source.  Don’t run to antibiotics, rarely are the cold and flus actual bacteria, and then you destroy your good gut bacteria.  I only trust DoTerra as they are the most tested and purest forms safe for your little ones.  Ask me for more info.

6.  Herbs.  Certain herbs and supplements work wonderful for boosting the immune system.  Ecchnicea premium and Astragulus are wonderful immune system boosters, as well as whole food vitamin C and zinc.  I also love using Aregentyn silver for kicking bugs to the curb quickly and silymarin to increase glutathione production.

7. Sanitation.  Use essential oils to disinfect, not harsh chemicals.  Wash your hands.  Stay home if your sick, and don’t spread things around!!!

Halloween Candy Alternatives

I know i know… I don’t want to be the bad guy as I’m sure you don’t in your home, but candy really is the devil haha. In all seriousness…. sugar is a toxin to our body, especially for growing minds.

It’s hard to control all that goes in and out, but I encourage you to moderate what your children get this year, as well as use other alternatives to giving out candy.
I personally give fun little toys, glow sticks and the such, which actually kids tend to love even MORE!   There’s options out there so don’t go right for candy.

1. Glow sticks.

100 8” Non Toxic Glow Sticks
PartySticks amazon.com $11.99

Here’s a not-so-fun fact: Children are most at risk for being hit by a car on halloween night according to today. Toss glow-in-the-dark accessories into their bag to help them stay visible. Plus, who doesn’t love a glow necklace?

2. Stickers.

Speaking of stickers, what kid doesn’t love decorating their notebooks with fun adhesives? Sheets of stickers make for fun treats that won’t weigh down trick-or-treaters’ bags.

3. Honey.

Nature Nate’s 100% Pure Raw & Unfiltered Honey
Nature Nate’samazon.com$7.88

t’ll give the kids an energy boost that won’t keep them awake later — some evidence even suggests consuming raw honey before bed can help induce the production of tryptophan, an amino acid that makes people sleepy.

4. Snack bags.

If you don’t have a ton of time to shop, prepackaged individual servings of veggies snacks, or whole fruit leathers.

5. Pencils, erasers, and pencil toppers.

School supplies in fun shapes and patterns give them something to enjoy after Halloween ends.

6. Bubbles.

Pick up Halloween-themed party-sized bottles or grab packs of white ones and decorate each with stickers.

7. Spooky accessories.

Think plastic vampire teeth plastic spider rings and other age-appropriate goody-bag fillers you can easily nab at the party supply or dollar store.

8. Mini bottles of water.

Walking from door to door can be a workout, so help the kiddos stay hydrated while they make the rounds. Slap on spooky label and you’re ready to go.

9. Temporary tattoos.

EaNy Toys Halloween Temporary Tattoos

11. Bouncy balls.

Opt for creepy eyeballs in the bouncy ball department if you want to stay with a theme.

12. Key chains.

Whether they slip it around their jeans in the coming days or add it to their backpack, the kids will love bouncing around with a pumpkin, vampire, or ghoulish key chain

You loved them in the ’80s and ’90s, and now your kids will know the joy of a slap bracelet too.

14. Activity pads.

Instead of a treat that’ll last for all of five seconds, hand out pages of assorted coloring sheets, puzzles, and games that’ll keep them occupied for hours.

OIL OF THE WEEK

ON the spotlight this week is Dr. Hamel’s favorite Blend called a FLU BOMB!   This blend of DoTerra Essential oils, will knock infections on their butt.  She personally uses this as a protection, and frequently when she does come down with something to help recover quickly.

This blend incorporates 5 different oils:

1. Lemon-  Amazing gentle detoxer
2. Melalucea- Or some people know it by Tea tree oil.  An amazing antimicrobial, antibacterial, antifungal.
3. OnGuard – Blend of specific oils that help fight viruses and bacteria, can also be used on its on to protect yourself to make sure you don’t get sick!
4. Oregano-  huge powerhouse for killing microbes.  Bacteria, fungus, parasites.. Be careful with this one it’s spicy!  So make sure you dilute
5. Frankincense-  known as the king of all oils, this powerhouse oil has over 40 different uses.  It helps decrease inflammation in the body and helps stimulate the immune system to fight off infections.

Interested in purchasing a flu bomb or making your own???  Reach out to Dr. Hamel!

The next oils class will be Wednesday November 7th!  We will go over pure fumes, natural scents to use in your own and on your body, immune system boosters, and holiday items!  Have a class you’re interested in?? Let her know!!  The class will be at her Mission Valley office at 6pm!

I would use grass fed butter instead of vegan butter.Activated Charcoal is a natural detoxifier It helps to bind to toxins and flush them out of your body. It’s been used in emergency rooms and for trauma for years. Many who subscribe to a more natural or alternative health lifestyle use it to help with detox and to reduce bloating. It also MAY help decrease your hangover if you are drinking. Be sure to drink plenty of water any time you take charcoal, including in apple form, as it can cause dehydration.

Second, the bad. It will stain. Don’t wear your nice clothes when you make these apples. Be sure to check the bottle that you use for dosage. For example, mine said not to exceed 12 capsules a day for an adult. I used 6 capsules in this recipe. I probably could have used more to make it darker, but there is a thing called too much.

That is all for now,
Dr. Hamel

Key Nutrients You Need to Make Your Detox Journey Successful

Happy Monday everyone!  Today is the last Monday of April, which means it is the last topic about detoxing!  I hope you’ve enjoyed this month, and got all your questions answered.  As always if there are topics you’d like to talk about please let me know!

Next month will be all about postpartum health and care.  I will be having guest speakers talk on my facebook live, which I will try and do once a month in general, is have experts chat with me about their expertise as well.  It should be fun!

Okay back to this week’s topic.  This week I want to give you some tools of how you can basically armor your body to be able to detox everyday, and things that need to be foundational and present in order for you to effectively detox.

1. Oil Pulling.
This is something that is SO easy, and something EVERYONE can do every single day to help detox your mouth and overall body.  80% of chronic conditions arise from poor oral health!
Oil Pulling has been around for thousands of years in aryuvedic medicine.  It is a simple practice of using cold pressed coconut oil, and I like to add essential oils.  There is a link to how to do it on my website:
https://www.drrachelhamel.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/oil-pulling.pdf

I just finished a 30 day oil pulling challenge, in which so many experienced amazing benefits in their oral health, not only just teeth whitening but overall detox!  Switch from toxic toothpaste and mouthwash to oil pulling!

2.  Minerals. If you have poor oral health, and heavy metal or chemical toxicity in your body, you are almost 100% mineral deficient.  You see, we need minerals to be able to bind these toxins to eliminate them out of the body through our excretion pathways.  These are key elements the body uses to defend itself.
Here are the top 3 minerals that you will be deficient in if you have poor oral health.   And, just so you know about 1 in 30 americans have periodontal disease, and 100% of all root canals are still infected.

1.  Selenium-

  • The form is important.  200 mcg whole food form every day is a baseline.  Nail health, losing of hair?  Your deficient in selenium.   We cannot bind mercury, or produce glutathione without this mineral.  Brazil nuts contain the most food form, but 3 brazil nuts a day often doesn’t contain enough.   You can purchase a high quality selenium whole food supplement from my online pharmacy on my website:

2. Silica. We are silica based life forms.  Our connective tissue is dependent on silica.  It is critical for skeletal integrity of the teeth and gums,  mucosal layer, regenerating the mucus membranes, ligaments and tendons.  I recommend a whole food form.  5000 mg daily loading phase.   Alta silica X is the best brand.  3 tabs 4/ day over 2-4 weeks then reduce as connective tissue integrity is restored, with trace minerals.
You can also order a similar product on my online pharmacy:

3. Trace Minerals.  These include
Magnesium, Chloride, Sodium, Potassium , Calcium, Sulfate  and Boron.
These are vital minerals that are best taken in food forms.  However, some of you use filtered water, or reverse osmosis water, which depletes your water of minerals, so you must replenish your water with minerals.  I like this company:

Which leads me into point number 3.

3. Hydration.  What you hydrate with is extremely important!  If you drink chlorinated tap water, you are doing more harm than good.  Additionally, if you drink water from plastic bottles you also are polluting your body.  As I mentioned, if you get filtered water you need to replenish it with minerals.  However what i HIGHLY recommend for everyone in their detox journey is molecular hydrogen water.  Not only is it SUPER hydrating, but also high pH and high antioxidant level, which in itself detoxes .

the Brand I recommend is kangen water:

http://Www.CaliforniaKangen.com

4.  Food Choices.
You absolutely need to go organic or grow it yourself.  Get to know your local farmers.  Eating a diet of fast food because of its additives, preservative, ect.  causes damage to your microbiome.  The disruption of good gut by eating fast food is enough to create weight gain.  Eat lots of fermented foods which replenish your gut.
Here is a list of foods you could mix and combine and do a 5 day liver cleanse just with food!
-green apples
-pears
-avocados
-grapes
-lemon
-fresh berries
-baby greens
-bok choy
-dark green leafy veggies
-tomatos
-carrots
-onion
-scallions
-cucumber
-celery
-radish
-fennel
-garlic
-parsley
-olive oil
-apple cider vinegar
-white fish, salmon (wild)
-beans
-brown rice
-quinoa
-buckwheat
-green tea
-flaxseed meal
-daikon radish (blood cleaner)
-ginger/tumeric root

I also highly recommend doing my 21 day cleanse at least twice a year.  Not only is this needed for complaints but its also PREVENTATIVE.  It’s anti cancer, anti hormone issues, gut issues, ect.  WE live in a toxic world, so we need to make sure our pathways are ALWAYS clear.  This is the only cleanse I have found to be efficient.

SUPER TIP: Other key nutrients are foundational vitamins and antioxidants.  If you aren’t on a whole food based supplement, you are deprived, there just isn’t enough in our food sources anymore, even if you are organic.  I would love to get you started with this, as well as natural forms of glutathoine and other natural antioxidants like vitamin C, A, and B vitamins necessary for detoxification pathways.

5.  Excretion.  Getting the toxins out is also very important!  Try incorporating a dry sauna or infrared sauna in your weekly routine.  Coffee enemas or colon hydrotherapy a couple of times a month, exercising at least 5 times a week, and just plain moving every single day!  Hyperbaric oxygen chamber.
This can be extremely helpful increase the overall oxygen in your water to help detox and eliminate aerobic bugs out of your body.
Castor oil is also great for detoxing!  Castor oil packs on the liver and abdomen can flush out stagnated lymphatics.

6.  Essential Oils.  Use essential oils like Doterra Lemon to gently detox every single day!  Don’t have an account ask me to get you started!

7.  Regulate your hormones.  I talked about this in last week’s blog, but it’s super important in order to make sure your detox pathways remain unclogged.

8.  Sleep.  I also wrote about this previously.  Sleep is where we heal and our brain detoxes.  If you aren’t getting adequate sleep, please let me know, I have answers!

The most comprehensive whole body cleansing I have found.  Last year I did a whole video on how it works and why to use it.  If you’d like to re-watch you can find it here:
https://www.facebook.com/drrachelhamel/videos/1952856391520326/Become a patient of Dr. Hamel’s and get not only this amazing product, but step by step instructions on how it works and what you will experience.

Household Cleaners Aren’t So “CLEAN”

Cleaning Products May Not Be As “Clean” As We Think

Happy Monday!  I can’t believe February is almost over already!  I know for some you are still in the thick of winter, but soon it will be “spring” cleaning, and it’s important to be informed that cleaning products are a huge source of health issues!

I see many patients (if not all) that needs detoxing and purging from all the toxins we are exposed to regularly.  Of course we can avoid GMO and non organic foods, vaccines, things we breath and put on our body, but we can’t really avoid environmental exposure.  The key is to do YOUR BEST at decreasing your exposure as much as possible to these silent and hidden dangers.

Especially with the manmade “Flu Season” being terrible this year, we are all taking cautions by disinfecting our homes, hands, ect….BUT

Research has come out with cleaning products being as damaging for our lungs as :

“Smoking 20 cigarettes a day!”

“Scientists at Norway’s University of Bergen tracked 6,000 people, with an average age of 34 at the time of enrollment in the study, who used the cleaning products over a period of two decades, according to the research published in the American Thoracic Society’s American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.

They found that lung function decline in women who regularly used the products, such as those who worked as cleaners, was equivalent over the period to those with a 20-cigarette daily smoking habit.”

Wow….

“When you think of inhaling small particles from cleaning agents that are meant for cleaning the floor and not your lungs, maybe it is not so surprising after all.

The experts attribute the decline in lung function to the damage that cleaning agents cause to the mucous membranes lining the airways, resulting over time in persistent changes.

A Study in September 2017 found nurses who used disinfectants to clean surfaces at least once a week had a 24 percent to 32 percent increased risk of developing lung disease. ”

SO… By “thinking” you are doing good by cleaning and disinfecting, you could be damaging your lungs, and I will say that the lungs are one of the HARDEST tissues to regenerate in our body.  Sometimes, lung tissue cannot be regenerated.  We know smoking is bad for us, but toxins are catching up to becoming the leading cause for so many ailments.

Asthma, allergies, ect.  These could all be caused by toxins.  Decreasing your exposure is your best bet.

Also, laundry detergents, dryer sheets… these are all laden with chemicals as well.  Especially the super “smelly” perfume ones.. Just say no….

I see it everyday in my office.  The kidneys and liver constantly being compromised from all the toxins, which then lead to hormone issues, back/body pain and chronic inflammation, headaches, and digestion issues.
I’ve also seen recently with the epidemic of flu vaccines in California, many patients come in with toxicity reactions causing debilitating symptoms.

“No one can avoid exposure to toxic chemicals altogether, but it is possible to reduce it significantly. In the following pages, Greer, Sutton and other experts weigh in on the worst toxic offenders commonly found in household cleaning products, and offer ways to swap them for healthier, safer options.

1. Phthalates

Found in: Many fragranced household products, such as air fresheners, dish soap, even toilet paper. Because of proprietary laws, companies don’t have to disclose what’s in their scents, so you won’t find phthalates on a label. If you see the word “fragrance” on a label, there’s a good chance phthalates are present.

Health Risks: Phthalates are known endocrine disruptors. Men with higher phthalate compounds in their blood had correspondingly reduced sperm counts, according to a 2003 study conducted by researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Harvard School of Public Health. Although exposure to phthalates mainly occurs through inhalation, it can also happen through skin contact with scented soaps, which is a significant problem, warns Alicia Stanton, MD, coauthor of Hormone Harmony (Healthy Life Library, 2009). Unlike the digestive system, the skin has no safeguards against toxins. Absorbed chemicals go straight to organs.

Healthier Choice: When possible choose fragrance-free or all-natural organic products. Greer recommends bypassing aerosol or plug-in air fresheners and instead using essential oils or simply opening windows to freshen the air. Besides causing more serious effects like endocrine disruption, “Aerosol sprays and air fresheners can be migraine and asthma triggers,” she says. Also consider adding more plants to your home: They’re natural air detoxifiers.

2. Perchloroethylene or “PERC”

Found in: Dry-cleaning solutions, spot removers, and carpet and upholstery cleaners.

Health Risks: Perc is a neurotoxin, according to the chief scientist of environmental protection for the New York Attorney General’s office. And the EPA classifies perc as a “possible carcinogen” as well. People who live in residential buildings where dry cleaners are located have reported dizziness, loss of coordination and other symptoms. While the EPA has ordered a phase-out of perc machines in residential buildings by 2020, California is going even further and plans to eliminate all use of perc by 2023 because of its suspected health risks. The route of exposure is most often inhalation: that telltale smell on clothes when they return from the dry cleaner, or the fumes that linger after cleaning carpets.

Healthier Choice: Curtains, drapes and clothes that are labeled “dry clean only” can be taken instead to a “wet cleaner,” which uses water-based technology rather than chemical solvents. The EPA recently recognized liquid carbon dioxide (CO2) as an environmentally preferable alternative to more toxic dry-cleaning solvents. Ask your dry cleaner which method they use. For a safer spot remover, look for a nontoxic brand like Ecover at a natural market, or rub undiluted castile soap directly on stains before washing.

3. Triclosan

Found in: Most liquid dishwashing detergents and hand soaps labeled “antibacterial.”

Health Risks: Triclosan is an aggressive antibacterial agent that can promote the growth of drug-resistant bacteria. Explains Sutton: “The American Medical Association has found no evidence that these antimicrobials make us healthier or safer, and they’re particularly concerned because they don’t want us overusing antibacterial chemicals — that’s how microbes develop resistance, and not just to these [household antibacterials], but also to real antibiotics that we need.” Other studies have now found dangerous concentrations of triclosan in rivers and streams, where it is toxic to algae. The EPA is currently investigating whether triclosan may also disrupt endocrine (hormonal) function. It is a probable carcinogen. At press time, the agency was reviewing the safety of triclosan in consumer products.

Healthier Choice: Use simple detergents and soaps with short ingredient lists, and avoid antibacterial products with triclosan for home use. If you’re hooked on hand sanitizer, choose one that is alcohol-based and without triclosan.

4. Quarternary Ammonium Compounds, or “QUATS”

Found in: Fabric softener liquids and sheets, most household cleaners labeled “antibacterial.”

Health Risks: Quats are another type of antimicrobial, and thus pose the same problem as triclosan by helping breed antibiotic-resistant bacteria. They’re also a skin irritant; one 10-year study of contact dermatitis found quats to be one of the leading causes. According to Sutton, they’re also suspected as a culprit for respiratory disorders: “There’s evidence that even healthy people who are [exposed to quats] on a regular basis develop asthma as a result.”

Healthier Choice: You don’t really need fabric softener or dryer sheets to soften clothes or get rid of static: Simple vinegar works just as well. “Vinegar is the natural fabric softener of choice for many reasons,” explains Karyn Siegel-Maier in her book The Naturally Clean Home (Storey Publishing, 2008). “Not only is it nontoxic, it also removes soap residue in the rinse cycle and helps to prevent static cling in the dryer.” White vinegar is your best choice for general cleaning; other types can stain.

Alternatives to chemical disinfectants abound, including antibacterial, antifungal tea-tree oil. Mix a few drops of tea-tree oil and a tablespoon of vinegar with water in a spray bottle for a safe, germ killing, all-purpose cleaner. Add a couple of drops of lavender essential oil for scent.

5. 2-Butoxyethanol

Found in: Window, kitchen and multipurpose cleaners.

Health Risks: 2-butoxyethanol is the key ingredient in many window cleaners and gives them their characteristic sweet smell. It belongs in the category of “glycol ethers,” a set of powerful solvents that don’t mess around. Law does not require 2-butoxyethanol to be listed on a product’s label. According to the EPA’s Web site, in addition to causing sore throats when inhaled, at high levels glycol ethers can also contribute to narcosis, pulmonary edema, and severe liver and kidney damage. Although the EPA sets a standard on 2-butoxyethanol for workplace safety, Sutton warns, “If you’re cleaning at home in a confined area, like an unventilated bathroom, you can actually end up getting 2-butoxyethanol in the air at levels that are higher than workplace safety standards.”

Healthier Choice: Clean mirrors and windows with newspaper and diluted vinegar. For other kitchen tasks, stick to simple cleaning compounds like Bon Ami powder; it’s made from natural ingredients like ground feldspar and baking soda without the added bleach or fragrances found in most commercial cleansers. You can also make your own formulas with baking soda, vinegar and essential oils. See the “DIY Cleaners” sidebar for a list of clean concoctions.

6. Ammonia

Found in: Polishing agents for bathroom fixtures, sinks and jewelry; also in glass cleaner.

Health Risks: Because ammonia evaporates and doesn’t leave streaks, it’s another common ingredient in commercial window cleaners. That sparkle has a price. “Ammonia is a powerful irritant,” says Donna Kasuska, chemical engineer and president of ChemConscious, Inc., a risk-management consulting company. “It’s going to affect you right away. The people who will be really affected are those who have asthma, and elderly people with lung issues and breathing problems. It’s almost always inhaled. People who get a lot of ammonia exposure, like housekeepers, will often develop chronic bronchitis and asthma.” Ammonia can also create a poisonous gas if it’s mixed with bleach.

Healthier Choice: Vodka. “It will produce a reflective shine on any metal or mirrored surface,” explains Lori Dennis, author of Green Interior Design (Allsworth Press, 2010). And toothpaste makes an outstanding silver polish.

7. Chlorine

Found in: Scouring powders, toilet bowl cleaners, mildew removers, laundry whiteners, household tap water.

Health Risks: “With chlorine we have so many avenues of exposure,” says Kasuska. “You’re getting exposed through fumes and possibly through skin when you clean with it, but because it’s also in city water to get rid of bacteria, you’re also getting exposed when you take a shower or bath. The health risks from chlorine can be acute, and they can be chronic; it’s a respiratory irritant at an acute level. But the chronic effects are what people don’t realize: It may be a serious thyroid disrupter.”

Healthier Choice: For scrubbing, stick to Bon Ami or baking soda. Toilet bowls can be cleaned with vinegar, and vinegar or borax powder both work well for whitening clothes. So does the chlorine-free oxygen bleach powder made by Biokleen. To reduce your exposure to chlorine through tap water, install filters on your kitchen sink and in the shower.

8. Sodium Hydroxide

Found in: Oven cleaners and drain openers.

Health Risks: Otherwise known as lye, sodium hydroxide is extremely corrosive: If it touches your skin or gets in your eyes, it can cause severe burns. Routes of exposure are skin contact and inhalation. Inhaling sodium hydroxide can cause a sore throat that lasts for days.

Healthier Choice: You can clean the grimiest oven with baking-soda paste — it just takes a little more time and elbow grease (see recipes in “DIY Cleaners” sidebar). Unclog drains with a mechanical “snake” tool, or try this approach from the Green Living Ideas Web site: Pour a cup of baking soda and a cup of vinegar down the drain and plug it for 30 minutes. After the bubbles die down, run hot water down the drain to clear the debris.

So….

Instead!!

Try using natural products, or even just water and a cloth for cleaning!  To really disinfect, try using pure essential oils like melalucea, lemon, lavender.  Diffuse in your house, or make your own products.  I guarantee you will notice a difference in how you feel using less toxic chemicals in your homes.

Just eliminating the sources is not enough though.  After clearing your home of these chemicals, it is then important to do a body cleanse to really fully clean out your organs, so they can deal with the toxins we don’t have control over being exposed to.

I myself do a cleanse twice a year.  Get your whole family in on it!  Want to prevent cancer?  Your best bet is making sure your body is cleaned out regularly.
